Welcome. Currabungla is a medium size property of 675 acres. We run approximately 1500 sheep and nearly 400 alpacas. Located in the beautiful Southern Tablelands of NSW, Laggan is in the heart of the fine wool sheep country and is ideal for breeding alpacas. Being 940 metres above sea level the cool summers and cold winters encourage the growth of fine fibre and the native pastures combined with some areas of improved pastures provides a high level of nutrition. With continuous tree planting to provide shelter for stock and pasture the property is improving in productivity and appearance.

We bought our property in 1992 and have been breeding alpacas since 1995.

The Alpacas - these gentle animals are native to South America and have been domesticated for thousands of years - originally by the Incas. They were first brought to Australia in 1858 and ironically the most environmentally friendly species imported during that period failed to thrive due to a change of Governor. The next shipment arrived in Australia 130 years later and due to the very strong Alpaca fraternity these animals are increasing and thriving.

Currabungla twins
Twin alpacas are rare and these two boys, White Jade and White Topaz, weighed a total of 15kgs at birth. Jewel, their mother fed them totally, no supplementary feeding, they are both fully grown and have superfine fleece.
